The PurHome X-5 is a High Capacity Whole House Water Filtration System. It begins with an amazing 0.35 micron pre-filter for the finest filtration and crystal clear water (a human hair is about 100 - 200 micron).
Next, the water passes through NSF Certified KDF55 media, a combination of two dissimilar alloys, to remove chlorine over 99%, as well as filter heavy metals like lead, mercury, copper, nickel, chromium, and other dissolved metals, and extends the life of the carbon stage. KDF55 also provides a bacteriostatic environment.
The final stage is our high capacity catalytic centaur carbon that is designed to remove chlorine, chloramines, VOC's, SOC's, and THM's. This combined filtration provides great tasting water at every tap.
Most other whole house systems use only carbon. Carbon is a "must" in water filtration, however, it can be a breeding ground for bacteria over time. KDF inhibits bacterial growth and can increase carbon life as much as 300%.
Chloramines in your Water? Most municipalities treat water with chlorine, but some cities are now beginning to use chloramines as a disinfectant. It is a combination of chlorine with ammonia. The effects of chloramines have not been widely studied yet, but it is considered no less dangerous than chlorine to your health. We now include chloramine removal media at no extra charge. Read an article concerning allergies to chlorine.
Main unit 44" H, 8" in diameter;
Pre-filter 12" H x 5" in diameter
Filter Media in tank should be replaced every 5 years, pre-filter every few months as needed.
To learn how to change pre-filter, see video on Product Videos tab above.

The system can also be installed outside or buried in the ground in climates where the temperatures do not reach below freezing. If installing outdoors, it must be protected from the sun and elements in order to keep warrranty in effect.
Q: Will all the water in my house be filtered?

A: The cost to replace the media for the PurHome X-5 is currently only $549.00, including free shipping.
Q: What is KDF55 media?
A: KDF55 is an electrostatic media specifically designed to remove chlorine and heavy metals. Using KDF55 with carbon eliminates the need for backwashing saving water and electricity. KDF55 is an NSF (National Science Foundation) certified water filtration media that is used in Hospitals, Restaurants, Municipal Water Treatment Facilities, and Homes across the United States. For more information on KDF-55, please see this article on the PuriTeam Blog.
Q: How do I know when the media inside the tank needs replacing?
A: Chlorine breaking through is a good indicator to gauge system performance and we are happy to provide chlorine test strips upon request. The rule of thumb is if chlorine is breaking through so are other contaminates.
Q: Will the PurHome X-5 remove Fluoride?
A: No, the PurHome X-5 is not designed to remove Fluoride; however the KDF55 media used in this system has shown a reduction of about 60% however that is not high enough to make removal claims. To completely remove the Fluoride we recommend a nano type of filtration. Fluoride is not harmful when bathing and therefore removing it from the drinking only is the most popular method of treatment. For “super purified” water removing virtually every organic and inorganic contaminant including the Fluoride, we recommend our Hydrotech Push Button monitoring reverse osmosis system under your kitchen sink. This is commonly paired when using a whole house specialized treatment system. We use a high quality one-piece manifold system and it comes with a water quality monitor. You will find information at this link:
However, before you remove fluoride from your drinking water, carefully weigh the positives and negatives. It is a controversial topic, but we aim to educate you on the issues on our news.puriteam.com site. Here is one article on fluoride you may wish to consider.

You can immediately feel the soft water

I had this water filter system installed almost five years ago. I cannot tell you how happy we are with it. Our water never tasted bad to me before we installed the filter, but now I notice a difference when I drink other people's water. Ours is far tastier! I also noticed an improvement in my acne and hair texture.
I had my stepfather install the filter (he's a general contractor who's sort of a jack-of-all trades) so I can't speak to the cost of having a plumber do the job. Installation was pretty straightforward. The only tricky part was getting a tight seal with only teflon tape.
Our prefilter lasts anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks. I buy my prefilters yearly from a different web site because I found them cheaper elsewhere. It took me a few tries to get the hang of replacing the prefilters. I flooded the basement a few times before I finally mastered it. If the prefilter compartment isn't tightened just the right amount, tiny drips will leak out of the seal and flood your basement!
All in all, we are thrilled with this filter. I would definitely buy it again if we ever buy a new house.

Main X5 filtration system works great (since 3 months), water feels so much better with the chloramine and dirt removed. System doesn't take up much space in the garage, did straightforward installation myself using the quite helpful instructions. Only problem is to get the PVC fittings at the main and prefilter head water tight with teflon tape (label on head says to only use teflon tape and not pipe sealant). Second problem was our terrible water quality which clogged the 0.35um prefilter after only 4 days (far shorter than the advertised 3-6 months for the prefilter) and which would pose $1000/year operating cost at $19 per cartrige. To mitigate this, installed a second prefilter upstream with a 1um washable cartrige at $5 ea which seems to do the trick to make the 0.35um prefilter last for more than a month.
Took one start off because of the prefilter hassle, but we might just have unusually bad water.

We are very happy with the unit. The plumber installed it easily and no appreciable drop in water pressure

I did a lot of research online and the PurHome X5 filter system was top of the list. I had a plumber install it for me ($125.00) and have not noticed any appreciable drop in water pressure anywhere in the house. We've been enjoying the best tasting water ever since. I've definately gotten my moneys' worth with this product.

My doctor suggested I get a water filter as I was having medical issues and he didn't want me to drink any tap water. He also said no cooking in it. I was concerned about chlorine in the shower also. I had the water tested after install and it is exactly as promised. I love it. Taste great. The only down side was our install was in our crawl space. Plumber install was $600. Ouch. He said instructions were really bad.

Had great reviews and press. Top performer there. Can't tell a clean glass of water from a dirty. Tastes fine, clean, better than my last unit from a competitor? Maybe. Cost me the same $400 for plumber to install? Yes. Much cheaper than bottled water for my family of four? Absolutely. But other units would have probably sufficed. But the company bought my heart and faith when they addressed my complaint of a missing photo crucial for correct water direction flow. It was present on their video, but absent in the written instructions, and my plumber and I both missed it. The company anted up and notified me of their correcting it immediately. How's that for a Company's Service, and belief in their customers, and their product?

We moved to Pennsylvania three years ago, the water tasted awful so we spent the first year dragging cases of water home to drink. Then we heard about this filter and installed it. What a difference!!! The water tastes great, no need for bottled water, and a cup of coffee never tasted better. We also feel confident using the water for cooking now, and when showering the water does not dry out our hair and skin anymore.
It is a wonderful product, easy to install, the filters are easy to change, and the biggest thing is peace of mind that what you are drinking is pure. We are so happy that we heard about these filters and have one.

Prior to purchasing this filter we were purchasing bottled water weekly. Now our water tastes great, so no need for bottled water. Bathing no longer causes skin irritation.
Changing the filter is easy.
Resetting my pressure reduction valve seems to have overcome the slight pressure reduction caused by the filter

It's been trouble free since I installed it; that's 2007. Change the filter every 3-4 month. If you are in New York, make sure to get the 10 micro filter.
