Removes both "clear" and "red-water" iron, manganese and sediments. Maintenance-Free.

Effective and simple, no routine maintenance required!

The PurHome Birm & Filter AG will substantially reduce manganese and both ferrous ("clear-water" iron) and ferric iron ("red-water" iron) and other undissolved sediments down to about the 20 -30 micron range. Filter Birm & AG self-backwashes and only water is needed to clean the media bed during the backwash cycle.

There is no regular maintenance on the system and no filter cartridges to replace. It is important that the water contains no hydrogen sulfide ("rotten-egg" odor) and that the pH is at least 6.8 or higher. Oxygen content needs to be 15% of iron content for best results. If not, a simple aeration device may be installed.

The PurHome Filter Birm & AG uses the Fleck ProFLow SE Control Valve.

* Fleck ProFlowSE 5 CYCLE FILTER FEATURES: Fully automatic backwash/rinse/purge cycles

* Home-owner friendly push button settings

* Fully programmable backwash cycle durations and time

* No moving parts in water - no iron fouling

* By-pass valve included

* 5 year warranty on valve

* Tank is ABS lined, with fiberglass wrap - 10 year warranty

* Easy to install

For heavy "red-water" iron conditions, we recommend that you follow up with a 5 micron sediment filter.  This provides an even smaller filtration for very fine particles to keep the water as crystal clear as possible.  Filter cartridges will not need to be replaced often as the AG portion of the system filters out most of the larger particles. Ask about our washable sediment filters.

How long does the filter media last?

It is difficult to say for sure. Typically, it lasts about 4 years.  But it can last 4 - 10 years or more depending on the levels of contaminants and the amount of water used in the home. If you find that your iron removal is not as good as it was in the beginning, often times chlorinating the well and running chlorine into the tank is enough to regenerate the media. Let the chlorinated water sit in the tank overnight, and then backwash about 3 times in a row. This process will take approximately 6 hours because each backwash cycle takes 2 hours to complete. The backwashing does not take place the entire two hours; most of the time the valve pauses to let the media rest between cycles and service.

How is the PuHome Filter Birm/AG Installed?

Assembly, Installation & Maintenance

Congratulations! You have just purchased one of the highest quality iron and manganese reduction systems available.

Our Structural tanks are constructed of FDA approved plastics inside, called polyethylene, and reinforced with fiberglass on the outside for strong and durable support. The control valve is easy to program, and we recommend that you set the valve to backwash every 3 - 6 days, depending on the contaminant levels and amount of water used. For very high iron and/or manganese, or high water usage, backwashing may be set everyday if necessary.

How to assemble:
The Filter Birm/Ag contains both gravel and Birm/Ag. Because of the weight of the two media, we ship the Birm/Ag material and gravel separately to prevent damage to the tank during shipment.

The filter is designed for the water to pass through the Birm/Ag media first, and then the gravel. The water enters the main filter at the inlet side of the valve head, travels down through the media, is picked up by the center or riser tube, and exits the other side of the valve head.

   1. Place the provided blue cap on the end of the riser tube and push the tube firmly into the center of the tank. The blue cap prevents any media from falling down into the tube during filling. If the blue cap is missing, you may use tape to close the opening.

   2. Place the funnel into the opening, and pour the Birm/Ag media into the filter tank.

   3. Now remove the funnel and gently remove the blue cap or tape from the tube without pulling up on the riser tube.

   4. Carefully screw on the valve head, with the tube going into the hole in the center. You may use a silicon based lubricant or vegetable oil to grease the valve threads if they are not already greased. Be sure to hand-tighten securely.

   5. Now install the 1265 By-pass per the separate instruction sheet.

   6. Next, thread the _" x _" female flow control onto the drain line fitting with the arrow pointing away from the valve. For 1" systems, two 1" x _" PVC adaptors have been provided. Clear tubing is recommended for your drain line.

   7. Now follow the installation instructions for Control Valve for inlet and outlet hook up, as well as the line to drain. Please note: The flow control provided is to be attached to the drain connection, not the outlet.

NOTE: After installation, let the water enter slowly into the tank before opening supply fully. Be sure to run water at the closest sink for about 10 - 20 minutes to properly saturate the filter media.
